This is in truth a very rare find. Aesthetically, this is about as good as it gets, folks! I have come across many a German canister set, but never anything like this set. In fact, I cannot find another set like this anywhere on eBay or on the Internet in general. There are 15 matching pieces: 4 large lidded canisters (8 ½“) - Zucker (sugar), Reis (Rice), Cries (?) and Sago (?) * 6 smaller lidded canisters ( 4 ½“) - Muscat (?) , Nelken (carnations???), Pfeffer (pepper), Ingwer (ginger), Zimmt (?), Gewurz (?) * 2 wall-mounted lidded boxes (9 ½“ x 7 ¾“ x 4 ¾“) - Mehl (flour) and Salz (salt) * and Oel (oil) and Cssig (vinegar?) set (10 ¼”) * 1 handled pitcher (6 5/8“ x 4 ¼“ x 3 ¼“). All are hand painted with purple pansies and vines and gold trim. Each is marked as shown in the photograph. There is general overall crazing, some more than others. There is also wear to gold the in some areas. One lid for a small canister has been cracked and repaired. One wall-mount (salt) has also been cracked and repaired. There is a hairline in the oval “loop” on the lid of the “Cssig” cruet. Overall, I would say in remarkable condition for a very old set that was utilitarian in nature! I have tried to translate the names on the set, but couldn’t find all of them. If someone reading this knows what the unidentified names translate to, please let me know. Why someone would want a canister dedicated to carnations, I sure can’t say. I’m thinking the translation is probably something else! This is a one of a kind set and I hope it goes to a home that can really appreciate it and display it appropriately.

My auctions run from Sunday to Sunday, ending around 10:00 pm EST. They end in close succession, so keep that in mind when bidding on more than one item.
During the week of the auction, I may add to my auction description as I answer buyers questions. So please scroll all the way to the bottom to read any such additions.
My low starting bids are no reflection on the actual worth of the item as they are normally worth quite a bit more. Just as in a live auction, I like individuals to have the excitement of bidding without the hassles of reserves.
Unfortunately, I have in the past been a victim of dishonest buyers who purchased my perfect item with the intent to switch it with a damaged one they already own. They have attempted to demand a refund for the “broken” item I sold them. I now mark all of my items with an indelible invisible mark that can only be seen under a special light to protect myself. Please do not attempt such a switch as it is not only dishonest, it is Mail Fraud.
Please read my “Terms of Service” so that there will be no confusion. Thank you!
